Mewar Festival

The Mewar Festival is an annual event celebrated in the month of March or April in Udaipur. The festival welcomes the onset of the spring season. During this festival, the idols of Gangaur and Isar are circulated in a procession through different parts of the city. The Mewar Festival has special significance for women, as they are the main participants in this procession. Idols of the procession are prepared and adorned by womenfolk. Dancing, singing, music concerts, firework displays etc. are the parts of the procession. The procession concludes at the Gangaur Ghat of Lake Pichhola. The idols of Isar and Gauri are transferred into special boats at the ghat. After the procession culminates, the cultural part of the Mewar Festival begins. Songs, dance performances and a number of other programs are organized that highlight the Rajasthani culture.

Gangaur Festival

Gangaur Festival is one of the famous festivals and events in Udaipur that bears a special significance for the people of Rajasthan. Celebrated in honor of goddess Gauri, it is a spring festival where the devotees offer their prayer to the goddess whom they consider as the mother of abundance. Though the celebrations take place in parts of Bikaner, Jodhpur, Nathdwara, Jaisalmer in a massive scale, the  Gangaur Festival in Udaipur is celebrated with equally pomp and grandeur in other parts of the country as well.
    Gangaur Festival of Udaipur is the most important festival that is mainly celebrated by the women folk of Rajasthan. Considered as main idol of the married women, Gauri, is the companion of Shiva and the symbol of virtue. Married women pray for the long life and the welfare of their husbands. It is also believed that if unmarried girls observe this festival they will get married to the male they like to.

Shilpgram Fair

The Shilpgram Fair in Udaipur is dedicated for an entirely different cause. The colorful art festival of Shilpgram Fair in Udaipur that is celebrated during the winters upholds the rich and the varied talent of the locals of Udaipur.
    The 10 days long  Shilpgram Fair of Udaipur  that highlights the exquisite works of art, craft and culture is the ideal place to get mesmerized with the ethnic art. As a major project undertaken by the government to take the art and the majestic creations of the local artists on a much larger platform, the  Shilpgram Fair at Udaipur houses a number of art works that reflect the art of the states of Gujarat and Maharastra.
    Shilpgram spanning over an area of 70 acres at the foothills of Aravallis comprises of 26 huts where the daily household items ranging from the terracotta and the wooden materials to agricultural goods are featured.

Hariyali Amavasya Fair

Hariyali Amavasya is celebrated as a fair at Udaipur's Famous Fatehsagar Lake and Sahelion Ki Bari. As per historic records, this fair started in the reign of Maharana Fateh Singh who was the architect of Fateh Sagar. The lake came into existence when Fateh Singh on his way noticed that a lot of water is being wasted near Dewali pond. He decided to convert the same into a big reservoir to fulfill the water needs of the citizens. Initially the reservoir was called Shiv Sagar and the dame was named after the Duke of Cannaunght, which was later renamed Fateh Sagar. To celebrate the achievement, a moonless night of the rainy season was chosen and since then this day is celebrated as a fair day in Udaipur near Saheliyon ki Bari.
    This fair is celebrated for two consecutive days in which one day is dedicated to women only while the other day entire family can enjoy. On the day which is reserved for the ladies, males are not allowed at all which makes it a unique fair in entire India.
